'Tis Stil the Season
President's Letter
The winter holidays are when people look forward to giving and getting. But gifts can be frustratingly off the mark if information about likes, wants, and needs hasn’t been gleaned, or better yet shared, ahead of time.

Imagine if instead of getting the latest and greatest technology, which could have been fun and useful, you were given some gag gift that ends up in the closet, or a homemade sweater in the wrong size? If you’d only said something, both the giver and receiver would have been happier with the effort and the outcome.Read more here.

Let’s have a great time in Atlanta!
We’re off to a good start. Over 80 people took advantage of the early bird special and have registered for the conference! I’d like to remind you that last year we ran out of rooms at the Crowne Plaza at Ravinia and people had to be sent to other hotels. If you haven’t made your room reservations, now is the best time to do it. Here is the link: http://www.adhdcoaches.org/conference-2013/hotel-reservations/

Pre-Conferences - If you didn’t get a chance to register for one of the pre-conferences, please contact our VA at admin@adhdcoaches.org or myself atconference@adhdcoaches.org. Pre-Conference speakers are: Robert Tudisco: The Future of ADHD Coaching: A View From the Outside In and Wilma Fellman and Victoria Roche: Introduction to Career Services Specialty Training. We All Have Talent
Are you all getting ready for the 2013 ACO Conference? Nearly 100 of us have already registered. This conference will be the largest group of ADHD Coaches ever gathered. Imagine the energy! Peggy Ramundo, Madelyn Griffith-Haynie and I are organizing a Talent Show in honor of Kate Kelly. Dean Solden has joined us also. We are creating a low lighted, coffee shop atmosphere for us to show our talent in a safe environment. Kate believed that we all have talent, but many of us have been held in the box, unable to get out. I have written poetry for years, but never shared it. I will be sharing my poetry. This is your opportunity too. Read more here.

New Members - Now by the Dozen
It's funny how the mind seems to have a need to make connections. Sometimes those connections are so random they're irrelevant. For example, as I sat down to prepare this article, I was excited to count 12 names on the list of new members. Maybe it's because I'm a numbers person that my mind began making connections with the number 12: December 12, 2012 recently passed; 'Tis the season that we hear The 12 days of Christmas at least 12 times a day; and the aptly named ACO Connections conference begins the 12th day of April (pre--conference sessions on the 11th - wink, wink).  What did I get out of this exercise? ...about 12 seconds of entertainment and the chance to work in a shameless plug for our conference. That's about it. Read more here.

Visionary Statement for Coaching the Heart and Mind
I strongly believe that a more coordinated effort on treating ADHD is needed between coaches, therapists, physicians, the justice system, the workforce, and our primary and secondary education systems - our partnering professionals.  With a coordinated effort our coaches can, per our bylaws, “serve as an informational link to the general public and other professionals working with people who are affected by ADHD.”  The opportunities will broaden for our coaches to design alliances for the betterment of all those in need of help with their ADHD. CHADD Conference RFP Update
Well, good news for all of us procrastinators! CHADD has extended its due date for proposals for its 25th Annual International Conference by almost two weeks. The new due date is February 12th.  Mark your calendars so you don’t forget. Also, you might want to review last month’s article with its discussion of  how to submit a winning proposal. Read more here.

Connecting Coaching with...Resources
Two resources for our clients came to my attention this year; Service dogs for PTSD, Anxiety, ADHD...; and colored lenses for people with Irlen's Syndrome. I bring them up to point out the variety of supports that coaches can learn about for referral services for their clients. We refer clients for counseling, for diagnosis, to lawyers and to education consultants. Look into these two resources and see how they fit into your referral bag. Read more here.
