RobinKatherinePhoenixABeing with friends is a great time to relax, exchange stories, laugh and just enjoy. This past weekend, I traveled with the 2014 ACO conference co-chairs, Robin Nordmeyer and Kathryn Jahnke, to Phoenix, Arizona to check out the Marriott where our 2014 conference will be held. We spent the greater part of the day with our contact person, touring the facility, viewing the breakout rooms, talking about food and so much more.

The rooms are spacious, the food is quite good, and the pool and patio are welcome networking areas. And this year, no one will have to worry about overhearing the presenter in the next room. The air walls are designed to keep the noise out.

The Phoenix Marriott Airport is just ten minutes from the airport and the shuttle is right outside the baggage claim. You can get out and walk about to find a drugstore and food store just a half mile down the road. There is also a fitness center at the hotel for your use.

But that’s not all! We always have one night where you can go out on the town and enjoy a meal with your colleagues and friends. The hotel shuttle takes you to the train station where you catch the Light Rail, Phoenix’s public transportation system. You can take it downtown where you’ll find many great restaurants and plenty of shopping. A cab is also available and we’re told we are just ten minutes from two large shopping malls.

The three of us rode the light rail into Phoenix and visited the Phoenix Convention Center. We realize that many of you may not have been to Phoenix in some time, if at all. So we’re setting up a special site with the convention bureau where you can select a day trip or tour of your choice. You might want to consider getting a group of colleagues together or perhaps have your family join you before or after conference for a vacation. The last time I was out west was to Utah to do a river raft trip through the canyons, but I’ve never been elsewhere out west. I’m looking forward to perhaps seeing Sedona and the Grand Canyon. And I don’t want to do it alone!

I hope this plants a seed in your mind about coming to Phoenix. We have another great conference planned for you. It will be a time to learn, laugh, relax and enjoy!
